Galloway Backs Call to Ditch Majid Mawaz – because of Jesus and Mo Cartoon.

Galloway Says Those who Tweet this are Cuckolds.

George Galloway ‏@georgegalloway18h

No Muslim will ever vote for the Liberal Democrats anywhere ever unless they ditch the provocateur Majid Nawaz, cuckold of the EDL.

*******

Now we have little sympathy (in fact none whatsoever)  for Liberal Democrats and not a  great deal for Mawaz’s foundation, Quilliam (which is involved, we are pretty sure,  in the Jimas Ipswich charade with Jimas and the ‘ex’ EDL Tommy Robinson).

But this is the reason for Galloway’s comments,

Prominent members of the Muslim community have written to the Liberal Democrats and their leader Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to ask them to reverse their decision to back Maajid Nawaz’s attempt to become an MP at the next election.

The campaign comes after Nawaz posted a cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and Prophet Isa (as) on his Twitter feed. Any depiction of the prophets is considered offensive to most Muslims and has traditionally been prohibited by the majority of scholars.

Nawaz, who’s the chairman of the anti-extremism think-tank the Quilliam Foundation, defended his decision to post the cartoon by saying that it was not offensive and that scholars were split over the depiction of the Prophet. He also accused others of inciting his murder by calling him “a defamer of the Prophet.” Here

And,

“I have been discussing this matter since Friday night with a high profile Lib Dem who agrees people who attack religions with cartoons and other jokes are impolite and childish. Lets hope Nawaz can get this into his skull. Clegg must choose, lose hundreds of supporters by keeping Nawaz or sack Nawaz and rescue the Lib Dems which would fizzle out because of people like Nawaz.”

This is the background,

Two Muslim political commentators have clashed over a cartoon which was tweeted by one of them.

Maajid Nawaz of the Quilliam Foundation tweeted a cartoon with featured ‘Jesus and Mo’.

He added, “This is not offensive & I’m sure God is greater than to feel threatened by it.”

It led to a backlash by some readers, none more than Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation.

Shafiq said, “I intend to formally complain to the @libdems about @MaajidNawaz and his offensive tweet of a cartoon.”

Nawaz defended his tweet after being accused of being offensive, “My point is, that cartoon is not offensive. That’s my opinion. Don’t like it? Don’t read my tweets”.

Nawaz then accused Shafiq of inciting his murder. He said, “Using term “Defamer of Prophet” (Gustake Rasool) he knows gets people killed in #Pakistan,Mo Shafik incites my murder.”

To which Shafiq replied: “For the record I do not wish to see you murdered as you claim or wish you harm. But defend my right to challenge your tweets.”

Even political and social commentator, Mohammed Ansar added to the debate, “A parliamentary candidate has tweeted out something millions will find offensive. A very silly thing to do.” Here.

Maajid Nawaz (Urdu: ماجد نواز‎, born 1978), a British Pakistani, is Executive Director of Quilliam, a counter-extremism think tank. Himself a former member of the Islamist revolutionary group Hizb ut-Tahrir.

If this is the kind of thing “Muslim political commentators” row about then one can see why they have such universal respect.

You can see more sacrilegious Jesus and Mo cartoons here.

  1. Majid Nawaz sure is getting desperate. He was virtually unknown until he start shouting from the top of his lungs that he was now a reformed ex-HT Member.

He was given a pat on the back by Uncle Sam and associates. He got some funding for a Foundation and lived off the scheme quite handsomely.

However, as these things happen, the novelty slowly but surely wore off.

Now he has to pull off these little stints and desperate cries for attention. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does something more offensive as the years go on. Best thing to do with a “Mr. Nobody” like Majid Nawaz is to completely and totally ignore him. I promise you, he survives on your reactions.

Majid is a “presstitute” (media-prostitute) who is well pass his sell-by date. Don’t give this whore any attention.

PS: He’s probably googling his name right now to see what reaction he’s getting. Sad.

  2. You can learn a lot about a person from the insults they bandy about (I include myself in that!). The fact that Mr Galloway deems ‘cuckold’ a threat sufficient to change behaviour says it all.

  3. This article is a bit confused Andrew. Are you saying that you are opposed to Quilliam and if so why?

    • I am opposed to QUilliam’s role in co-operating with Jimas and their ‘Holocaust Memorial’ day with the ‘ex’ EDL, and the rest of that distasteful event.

  4. Galloway has a long record of denouncing people from Muslim backgrounds (including practicing Muslims) for being (according to himself) “bad Muslims.” It’s despicable, whether or not he has converted.

  5. “Tell MAMA, which monitors anti-Muslim hatred, said they had had two “credible death threats, originating from Pakistan.

Hundreds and hundreds of tweets have been sent during the furore, including many from Robinson himself, in support of Nawaz.

Fiyaz Mughal, the organisation’s founder, told HuffPost UK: “The divisiveness which exists at the moment can do no good. We do have people with very strong feelings on either side, and there is a potential clash here.”

Shafiq’s supporters have begun a petition to have Nawaz removed as a Lib Dem candidate for the parliamentary seat, gaining around 700 signatures in a few hours.

Ansar told HuffPost UK he backed the petition to remove Nawaz. “I personally do not find that particular cartoon offensive, but there are others in the series which show Jesus and the Prophet Mohammed in bed together, drinking beer together. This is something many Muslims will find offensive.

“The petition quotes the Lib Dem code of conduct, that ‘you must treat others with respect and must not bully, harass or intimidate or bring the Party into disrepute’

“I believe Maajid’s behaviour on Twitter was contrary to the code, and we should expect very high standards of behaviour from politicians. I think that, especially with the Lord Rennard investigation, the Lib Dems should be very careful about breaches of the code.”

Chris Moos, one of the LSE leaders of the student atheist society who wore the original cartoon t-shirts, has in the last few hours begun a counter petition in the support of Nawaz.

Nawaz told HuffPost UK he would not comment on the cartoon or petition.”

  6. I see that Mohammed Ansar has joined the outcry against Nawaz: this would, presumably, be the same Mr Ansar quoted in yesterday’s Independent on Sunday saying that the idea that apostates should be put to death is “not applicable” in Islam today: he doesn’t pull his punches, does he?

  7. “Galloway has a long record of denouncing people from Muslim backgrounds (including practicing Muslims) for being (according to himself) “bad Muslims.”

Is this the old self hating Muslim syndrome!

Jim Denham is the king of smear, against anyone who criticises Israel!

  8. “Quilliam (which is involved, we are pretty sure, in the Jimas Ipswich charade with Jimas and the ‘ex’ EDL Tommy Robinson)”

Can you provide any evidence of this? ‘pretty sure’ would suggest that you have some.

    • Not directly but the people listed as speakers for their ‘event’ are associated with it, starting with Tommy Robinson.

I would be only be too happy if they speak out against this highly inappropriate meeting.

  10. While Maajid Nawaz is receiving death threats, instead of unequivocally supporting him, the Liberal Democrats are now urging him to be “more sensitive” and “not to cause offence”. Their statement says:

“The Liberal Democrats are a party of respect, tolerance and individual liberty. We fundamentally believe in freedom of expression and as such defend Maajid’s right to express his views. But as a party we urge all candidates to be sensitive to cultural and religious feelings and to conduct debate without causing gratuitous or unnecessary offence.”

The LibDems have also failed to take action against party member Mo Shafiq, who is effectively inciting violence against Maajid Nawaz through his deliberate use of the term ‘Gustagh-e-Rasool’, which translates as ‘enemy of the prophet’ and usually results in murder.

It is shocking to see that a party that has freedom of speech as one of its core values is utterly failing to stand up for a progressive Muslim and take action against this dangerous anti-liberal campaign.

Clearly, we need to increase the pressure. What you can do:

Share this petition on Twitter, Facebook and with your contacts! #TeamNawaz
Contact Liberal Democratic party members, counsellors and MPs.
