Réseau Voltaire and the Plot Against Syria.

Is there anyone out there, apart from Assad’s regime,  claiming that a plot lies behind the Syrian uprising?

Not surprisingly: yes.

Réseau Voltaire is the creature of a certain Thierry Meyssan. 

At one time  his site used to get  cited as an authority on secularism by the boss of Islamophobia Watch, Bob Pitt – though the London supporter of all things Islamic seems to have gone quiet on that in the last years. Perhaps because Meyssan  is known as the father of all 9/11 Troofer theories, and Conspiracy dreck in general*. More probably because all these secularists jumped ship when Meyssan moved ever closer to the bizarre world where far-right meets Islamism, meets Sovereigntism, meets Arab Nationalism, meets ‘anti-imperialism’, meets, er, Syrian Baathism.

Recently Mysaan  has been accused of a close, not to say, bear-hugging relation with Lebanese Islamists – the Cat’s paw of Damascus. The redoubtable Caroline Fourest made this claim, which gives it some weight. The Troofer in chief  has vigorously denied the charge (Here).

Yet we note this return to form (14th of June):

La tentative de renversement du gouvernement syrien ressemble par bien des points à ce qui a été entrepris en Libye, cependant les résultats sont forts différents en raison de particularités sociales et politiques. Le projet de casser simultanément ces deux États avait été énoncé le 6 mai 2002 par John Bolton alors qu’il était sous-secrétaire d’État de l’administration Bush, sa mise en œuvre par l’administration Obama 9 ans plus tard, dans le contexte du réveil arabe, ne va pas sans problèmes.

Comme en Libye, le plan de départ visait à susciter un coup d’État militaire, mais il s’est vite avéré impossible faute de trouver les officiers nécessaires. Selon nos informations, un plan identique avait également été envisagé pour le Liban. En Libye, le complot avait été éventé et le colonel Kadhafi avait fait arrêter le colonel Abdallah Gehani [1]. Dans tous les cas, le plan originel a été revu dans le contexte inattendu du « printemps arabe ».

L’idée principale était alors de provoquer des troubles dans une zone très délimitée et d’y proclamer un émirat islamique qui puisse servir de base au démantèlement du pays. Le choix du district de Daraa s’explique parce qu’il est frontalier de la Jordanie et du Golan occupé par Israël. Il aurait été ainsi possible d’approvisionner les sécessionnistes.

Un incident a été créé artificiellement en demandant à des lycéens de se livrer à des provocations. D’autres affrontements ont été planifiés, chaque fois dans des districts frontaliers pour garantir une base arrière, d’abord à la frontière du Nord du Liban, puis à celle de la Turquie.

Les combats ont été menés par des unités de petite taille, composés souvent d’une quarantaine d’hommes, mêlant des individus recrutés sur place et un ely ncadrement de mercenaires étrangers issus des réseaux du prince saoudien Bandar bin Sultan. Bandar lui-même est venu en Jordanie, où il a supervisé le début des opérations en relation avec des officiers de la CIA et du Mossad

In English translation Meyssan has already stated earlier this year (writing from Damascus),

What was originally a plot to overthrow the Syrian regime turned into open blackmail through destabilization. Realizing that the revolt was not picking up steam, the anti-Syrian Arab press shamelessly echoed the negotiations that were in progress.

They reported the visits of negotiators going to Damascus to present the requirements of the Sudairi. If we are to believe the newspapers, the violence will not stop until Bashar Al-Assad bends to two requirements:
 break with Iran; and
 stop supporting the resistance in Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq.

International Propaganda

The Sudairi want a Western military intervention to end the Syrian resistance, along similar lines as the aggression which is unfolding in Libya. To do this, they mobilized propaganda specialists.
