Internationalist solidarity with the Syrian people! (Fourth International).

Syria’s Devastation Continues.

For this blog the civil war in Syria overshadows every other single international tragedy.

Around  400,000  people have died (Casualties of the Syrian Civil War).

Figures in 2016 state that 13.5 million Syrians require humanitarian assistance, of which more than 6 million are internally displaced within Syria, and around 5 million are refugees outside of Syria

The news in the last weeks that millions of refugees will have their property in Syria seized is another blow.

Analysts say law leaves citizens who have opposed Assad regime facing permanent exile.

Repression continues by the Assad regime.

The refugees still streaming outwards, including to Europe, have not gone away.

That supporters of the Jihadist genociders have just been gaoled in the UK illustrates that the war is not in some remote ‘out there’.

The Fourth International has the decency to get its priorities right on this burning issue.

Internationalist solidarity with the Syrian people is more necessary than ever!

The Fourth International reaffirms its solidarity with all the bombed, massacred, tortured, starving and displaced civilians in Syria; its solidarity with the democratic and progressive forces that continue to defend the aspirations of a heroic insurrection. Seven years after the beginning of the Syrian popular uprising, it has been gradually transformed into a deadly war with an international character, the situation in the country is catastrophic at all levels.

Probably more than half a million are dead and missing, over 80% of whom were killed by the regime’s armed forces and allies. More than 6 million people have fled across borders and 7.6 million are internally displaced, out of a population of 22.5 million in 2011. Over 80% of the population lives below the poverty line. The World Bank estimated in June 2017 that about one third of all buildings and nearly half of all school and hospital buildings in Syria had been damaged or destroyed.

Against the Assad regime and its allies, first component of the counter-revolution!

The Fourth International condemns once again the barbarity of the despotic regime of the Assad family and its allies, symbolised at the beginning of 2018 by their offensive on Eastern Ghouta near Damascus. Military offensives and bombardments against civilians, including the use of chemical weapons, continue in various areas outside the control of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Since 2015, the latter, which was in desperate straits at the time, seems to have continued to strengthen itself and to increase the territory recovered by relying on its Russian and Iranian allies, as well as on Lebanese Hezbollah. Today, Damascus controls almost 60% of the territory and over 80% of the population.

It is in this context that state actors with very diverse and even contradictory political and economic agendas but which all bombed and participated to the destruction of Syria, are now raising the question of reconstruction, whose costs are currently estimated at more than 350 billion dollars. For Assad, his relatives and the businessmen linked to his regime, reconstruction is seen as a means of consolidating the powers already acquired and re-establishing their political, military, security and economic domination, also with the forced resettlement of populations. This process would also reinforce the neoliberal policies of a heavily indebted regime that does not have the capacity to finance reconstruction on its own.

At the same time, the countries allied to the Syrian regime, in particular Russia and Iran – after their direct participation in the worst crimes against the population – but also China, are in the front line to benefit economically and strategically from the reconstruction.

Jihadists and Islamic fundamentalist forces lose ground but retain the ability to harm

The jihadists of the Islamic State (EI or “Daesh”) have lost the vast majority of Syrian and Iraqi cities and urban centres they occupied. Only isolated border regions between Iraq and Syria currently remain under EI control, in addition to a few pockets on Syrian territory. Other Jihadist and Salafist organizations – sometimes opposing Assad regime while fighting democratic forces – have also lost ground.

However, the loss of vast territories by these organizations does not mean the end of their existence and their ability to strike by terrorist attacks.

The Fourth International reaffirms its opposition to these ultra-reactionary organizations, which constitute another side of the counter-revolution. We must never forget that their rise to power against the democratic forces of the insurgency is as much due to the manoeuvres of the Syrian regime seeking to justify its unlimited repression in the eyes of the world as to the intervention of financiers and advisers from other states in the region. We must stress the need to tackle the sources of their development: the authoritarian regimes in the region that repress all forms of democratic and social resistance, regional and international foreign interventions, neoliberal policies that impoverish the popular classes.

PYD attacked, Kurds threatened

In January 2018, the Turkish army, assisted by Islamic and reactionary militias of the Syrian armed opposition, launched a massive air and ground offensive against the north-western Syrian province of Afrin, with the majority Kurdish population controlled by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its People’s Protection Units (YPG). This region is now occupied by forces of the Turkish army and Syrian militias in its pay, who are continuing human rights violations and forced displacement of the population.

The Turkish military operation against Afrin in Syria and the rejection by the Iraqi government of the result of the referendum on independence organised by the Barzani leadership. in Iraqi Kurdistan in October 2017, show once again that the international and regional powers are not prepared to see Kurdish national or autonomist aspirations come true. It is clear that Moscow and Washington’s support to YPG at different times, such as YPG’s support to the Russian military and air campaign alongside Assad’s regime launched in late September 2015 around Aleppo, did not prevent Ankara’s military aggression against Afrin. In his rush to dictatorship, Turkish President Erdogan wants to crush the Kurdish people like any democratic aspiration in his country.

The Fourth International reaffirms the right to self-determination of the Kurdish people, a right which can take various forms in the different countries of the region (such as independence, federalism or recognition of the Kurdish people as an entity with equal rights within a State). We welcome the heroic commitment of the forces that are leading this struggle against the obscurantist forces, even if we can express more or less strong criticism of their leadership, particularly in Iraq concerning the Barzani leadership, but also in Syria concerning the tactics of the PYD – while welcoming the emancipatory experiences it has attempted in Rojava. In any case, the widest solidarity with the Kurdish people is necessary against the fierce repression they suffer in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran, which is also reflected in the practices of European countries.

Internationalist solidarity with the Syrian people in all its components!

All the counter-revolutionary forces, despite their rivalry, acted simultaneously to defeat the Syrian revolution.

- Whether they are those who support the Bashar al-Assad regime (Russia, Iran and their militias) and who are involved in serious war crimes;
- the American and European imperialists who made declarations of principle about democracy but refused to allow the democratic components of the uprising to defend themselves, and also bombed civilian populations in the name of the fight against terrorism;
- the Turkish regime which used the Syrian revolution to appear as the leader of the “peoples of Islam” and transformed itself into an occupier of part of northern Syria, and bombed cities to fight Kurdish organisations;
- or the Gulf States which financially support all ultra-reactionary movements and militias as long as they serve their objectives;
- and finally Israel which, by carrying out targeted bombardments in Syria in order to weaken Assad and prevent the military expansion of Iran and Hezbollah, in fact strengthens them politically.

In this context the Fourth International calls:

– for the cessation of all military offensives. This means that all means of pressure must be used to sanctuarise the last regions that have escaped the regime and where hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians have taken refuge.

– to continue to denounce all foreign military interventions, that oppose aspirations for democratic change in Syria, whether in support of the regime (Russia, Iran, Hezbollah) or by proclaiming themselves “friends of the Syrian people” (Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, United States, etc.). The Syrian popular classes struggling for freedom and dignity have no friendly state in their struggle… even if they may seek to take advantage of inter-imperialist rivalries to advance their own interests while maintaining political independence and autonomy.

– to reaffirm the opposition to the Assad regime, to refuse its relegitimisation internationally, not to forget the war crimes, the tens of thousands of political prisoners still tortured in the regime’s jails , the disappeared, the refugees, the internally displaced, etc. A blank cheque given today to Assad and his crimes would be a further abandonment of the Syrian people and their heroic revolt, and would inevitably increase the sense of impunity of all authoritarian states, allowing them in turn to crush their populations if they were to revolt. Similarly, all actors who have committed human rights violations against civilians must be punished for their crimes.

Internationalist solidarity with the Syrian popular classes is more necessary than ever!

After the Fall of Afrin and the Heroic Fight of Anna Campbell.

with 2 comments

Anna Campbell: Died Fighting with her Comrades against Turkish and Jihadist Attack.

The mood amongst Kurds turned grim when Turkish-backed Islamist rebels took Afrin on Sunday and looted the town. Many Kurds were especially upset after fighters destroyed the statue of Kawa, the Kurdish blacksmith who is a symbol for the Kurdish New Year celebrations known as Newroz that will take place on March 21.

“I’m devastated, heartbroken, that’s the least I can say about this, I actually still can’t comprehend this,” said Berfin, a woman from Afrin who had fled to Aleppo. “We have an emotional bond with our land and the people there, the old men and women, our olive trees, Maidanky lake … it’s unbearable,” she said.

A day before the city was captured, the Syrian Kurdish militia, the People’s Protection Units (YPG), took the decision to evacuate most people and move the local administration to the Shahba region, north of Aleppo. Rather then having Afrin surrounded, the town destroyed and hundreds of civilians killed, Kurdish fighters decided it was better to evacuate and withdraw.

Al Jazeera,  Erdogan vows to extend Turkey’s operation to Syria’s northeast

Turkey has vowed to expand its operation in Syria’s Afrin region to other Kurdish-held areas further east, prompting fears for a possible confrontation with US troops stationed in the area.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Turkey’s plans to extend the operation a day after Turkish-led forces entered the city of Afrin in northwestern Syria virtually unopposed.

“We will continue this process until we entirely eliminate this corridor, including in Manbij, Ayn al-Arab, Tal Abyad, Ras al-Ayn and Qamishli,” the Turkish leader said.

Turkey, together with the opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels, launched a military operation into Afrin region in January to vanquish the US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighters, which it deems “terrorists” near its border.

Expanding Turkey’s military campaign into the much larger Kurdish-held territory further east would risk confronting troops of a NATO ally, the United States, that are deployed alongside a YPG-dominated force in northern Syria.

Turkish authorities have described the stretch of northern Syria under Kurdish control as a “terror corridor” on the long southern border.

The YPG has been Washington’s main ally against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) in Syria, in a partnership that has infuriated Turkey.

US criticism

Pentagon spokesman US Army Colonel Rob Manning reiterated Washington’s criticism on Turkey’s operation in Afrin in a press briefing on Monday.

“We are very concerned about the effect that fighting there [in Afrin] has had” on efforts to defeat ISIL, he said.

Meanwhile, Turkish presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin told Al Jazeera that Ankara and Washington had reached a general agreement on Manbij and that the Turkish side is now waiting for its NATO ally to implement the deal.

Ankara considers the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syria and its armed-wing YPG to be “terrorist groups” with ties to the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The PKK has waged a decades-long armed fight against the Turkish state that has killed tens of thousands of people.

The YPG had come to control large swaths of northern Syria, including Afrin, in the course of the seven-year Syrian war.

It gained the territory after defeating the ISIL group while fighting in a US-backed rebel alliance called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Erdogan also said in his speech on Monday that Turkey would carry out an offensive against Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq if Baghdad does not clear the region of them, referring to the PKK presence there.

Drawn to a Cause, British Woman Dies Fighting Alongside Kurds in Syria. New York Times,

Anna Campbell, a young woman from southern England, did all of that. Last week, as the Turkish military and its Syrian rebel allies hammered their way into Afrin, in northwestern Syria, Ms. Campbell died for her commitment — the eighth Briton and the first British woman to be killed fighting alongside Kurdish forces.

In Britain, Ms. Campbell, 26, was active in causes like animal rights and environmental protection, but until recently, she had no personal connection to the Kurds. Yet she was deeply moved, family and friends said, by the fight to defend an autonomous, mostly Kurdish region in northern Syria, known as Rojava, whose leaders advocate a secular, democratic and egalitarian politics, with equal rights for women.

“She was somebody who saw the injustices of the world and the plight of the weak and vulnerable and disempowered, and she also saw the idealism, the amazing utopian vision of Rojava, and she found those two elements irresistible,” her father, Dirk Campbell, said in an interview. “She wanted to prevent that from being stamped out, which Turkey and Syria are trying to do.”

The Free Syrian Army, a rebel group, and Turkey declared on Sunday that they had taken control of Afrin, a mostly Kurdish city near the Turkish border that had been held by the People’s Protection Units, the Kurdish-led militia known by the initials of its Kurdish name, Y.P.G. The Kurds appeared to have withdrawn, but the Y.P.G. claimed in a statement that the fight was not over, and that it had only shifted “from direct confrontation war to hit-and-run tactics.”

The Kurdistan Solidarity Campaign is devastated to hear of the martyrdom of Anna Campbell aka Helîn Qerecox. A prominent activist in Brighton and Bristol anti-fascist, anarchist and feminist circles, Anna went to Rojava in May to join the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) fighting the patriarchal, women-enslavers and rapists of ISIS. As a member of a workers’ co-operative and tenants’ right activist, Anna would have found common cause not just with the military fight against the ISIS fascists but also with the creation of a new society in Rojava built on common ownership and self-determination and the ethos of a co-operative society.

Anna’s sheer heroism was demonstrated by her insistence on taking part in the Afrin resistance despite the great danger of fighting against NATO’s second-biggest army and their array of jihadist proxies. Anna is not just the first woman from these shores to die fighting for the Rojava revolution, but the first British citizen to be killed by our NATO “allies” Turkey. It cannot be forgotten that NATO’s invasion of Afrin is illegal and has no basis in international law. Their attack on the convoy which killed Anna constitutes a war crime and we call on all progressive forces in this country to pressure the UK government to take firm action against Turkey. Enough is enough, we cannot stand by whilst our government colludes in Turkey’s war crimes, killing Kurds and British citizens alike, and reviving ISIS in northern Syria.

Anna’s act of bravery and martyrdom will never be forgotten by the Kurdish community, by her friends and comrades here and around the world, and by all those who fight for a better world. Through her acts she has become immortal and will live forever. Sehid namirin – the martyrs are immortal.” http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqflk

This how the ‘Free Syrian Army’ and the ‘National Coalition Of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces presented their murderous assault.

US Says, Daesh is committing Genocide in Syria and Iraq.

with 6 comments

Genociders.

This declaration should be supported by all progressive humanity:

John Kerry: Isis is committing genocide in Syria and Iraq

The US secretary of state said extremist group is responsible for acts of genocide against Christians, Yazidis and Shia Muslims amid mounting global pressure.

John Kerry on Thursday declared that acts committed by Islamic State against Christians and other minorities in Iraq and Syria are genocide.

The US secretary of state did not say how such a declaration would affect US involvement in areas controlled by Isis.

“My purpose in appearing before you today is to assert that in my judgment, Daesh is responsible for genocide against groups in areas under its control including Yazidis, Christians and Shia Muslims,” Kerry said, using an Arabic acronym for the extremist group. “Daesh is genocidal by self-proclamation, by ideology and by actions, in what it says, in what believes and in what it does.”

The announcement came amid mounting global pressure to declare the acts against Christians and other religious minorities as genocide.

The BBC reports:

Islamic State ‘committed genocide’, says US.

The US says the Islamic State (IS) group has committed genocide against Yazidis, Christians and Shia Muslims.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said IS was “genocidal by self-proclamation, by ideology and by actions”.

He also said the group was responsible for crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing in areas it controls in Syria and Iraq.

“Naming these crimes is important, but what is essential is to stop them,” Mr Kerry said.

Mr Kerry admitted that a lack of access to IS areas meant the US did not have a “complete picture” of the atrocities that had been carried out.

He said the “full facts” must be sought by an independent international investigation.

The US, he went on, would “strongly support” efforts to collect evidence of IS atrocities and brings those responsible to account.

“The fact is that Daesh kills Christians because they are Christians, Yazidis because they are Yazidis, Shia because they are Shia,” he said, using an Arabic acronym for the group.

“This is the message it conveys to children under its control. Its entire world view is based on eliminating those who do not subscribe to its perverse ideology.”

Solidarity with Asghar Bukhari: Zionists Ate My Sock!

Watch out for Zionist Shape-shifters!

This is all over Facebook and Twitter:

The original Facebook Page can be viewed here.

A Muslim campaigner claimed ‘Zionists sneaked into his home while he was asleep to steal his shoe’.

Asghar Bukhari, a founding member of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK, made the extraordinary claim in a Facebook post but soon faced ridicule.

Reports the Mirror.

We know exactly how Asghar Bukhari feels.

Zionists often creep into my gaff to steal my socks.  Only last week they nabbed one. They are cunning these Zioney  Zionists. They wait until I have drunk six pints of Abbott Ale and a bottle of wine, and, then, they nip in and pounce.

Zionist Booty.

It’s not just socks.

Over Christmas they took advantage – while I’d snaffled a bottle of Polish Vodka – to come in and “re-arranged things”.

I only found out the following morning.

The problem appears widespread.

Solidarity with Asghar Bukhari!

Or maybe not:

Muslim leader sent funds to Irving (Guardian).

One of Britain’s most prominent speakers on Muslim issues is today exposed as a supporter of David Irving, the controversial historian who for years denied the Holocaust took place.

Asghar Bukhari, a founder member of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPAC), which describes itself as Britain’s largest Muslim civil rights group, sent money to Irving and urged Islamic websites to ask visitors to make donations to his fighting fund.

This is what this individual said about Charlie Hebdo,

This magazine re-enforced everyone of those racist prejudices held in that polarised society, you may note that it was Algerian gun men who carried out the attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine.

Kurds and Islamists Clash in Wood Green.

with 9 comments

I publish this because I originally come from Wood Green.

My first political activity was giving out anti-apartheid leaflets on Spouter’s Corner, though I suppose my mum taking me and my sister as toddlers with her to a CND stall there counts as well.

Tendance Coatesy is  always interested in what’s happening in the old Heimat.

KURDISH ‘FIGHTERS’ KICK ISLAMISTS OFF LONDON STREET

In scenes reminiscent of the battle for Kobani, Kurds clashed with Islamists, including well known preacher Anjem Choudary, on the streets of Wood Green, London yesterday at about 5pm.

According to the Haringey Independent, the clashes occurred as a group of Kurds walked through Wood Green on their way to the Kurdish Community Centre where they were planning to celebrate Newroz, the traditional Iranian new year celebrations.

Also present on the High Street was an Islamic Roadshow Stall, part hosted by Anjem Choudary, where Islamists were promoting Sharia Law and urging Muslims not to vote.

Video footage shot by a group of young boys who appear to be on top of The Mall shopping centre at the time the riots broke out shows dozens of men swinging bats and throwing bricks at each other while police in high vis. jackets try to separate them.

Women are also present in the rioting crowds, at least one of whom was waving one of a number of purple flags, thought to belong to the Kurdish group. Most of the crowd can be heard chanting, although it is unclear what they are saying. Shoppers, including one young mum pushing a buggy, quickly disperse as shop windows are smashed.

Eventually a number of police back up vehicles arrive on the scene to drive the clashing hordes apart. But one of the young lads filming observes “No-one’s scared of the police”. Another notes “At least no Muslims died.”

Another video posted to YouTube shows the Islamic Roadshow before the rioting broke out. Muslim women in full veil hand out A4 sheets of paper with the answers to questions such as “What is Islam?” and “Who is Mohammed?” The stall was demolished by the fighting.

The Haringey Independent gives a more direct report than the conservative inflected Breitbart:

Police and demonstrators clashed after a “mini riot” broke out in a busy high street.

Members of the Kurdish community clashed with demonstrators at an Islamic Roadshow stall in High Road, Wood Green, yesterday at around 5pm.

Police were called to the town centre as arguments broke out between the two groups when the Kurdish people walked through Wood Green to the Kurdish Community Centre as part of Newroz – the traditional Iranian new year celebration.

Muslim activist Anjem Choudary, known for being an advocate of Sharia Law, was among groups hosting the Islamic Roadshow stall, who were heard promoting Sharia law and urging Muslims not to vote while handing out leaflets from their tent outside Boots.

Video footage, filmed by a boy who appears to have been above The Mall shopping centre at the time, shows police separating demonstrators, while racial slurs can be heard being shouted by people in the crowd.

Shoppers looked on as several police cars and a riot van arrived on scene, pushing the Kurdish community back down the high street away from The Mall, while men and women fled from the roadshow stand.

Police have confirmed that no arrests were made during the incident and the Kurdish procession arrived at the community centre at 6.11pm.

Many shoppers took to social media to react to the “madness”.

@Debsoul67 said: “A crazy day in North London… I used to love going Shopping in Wood Green..So glad I don’t live in London anymore.”

@MissRjTiggz said: “Only now seeing the madness that happened in Wood Green yesterday.”

@xxx_kimbo_xxx said: “Shocked that this happened in Wood Green.”

From This is London.

More reaction from Anti-Fascist left.

War against ISIS/Daesh: Kurdish Newroz demo confronts the coward-fascist Anjem Choudary, who is forced off the streets – London (UK)

Yesterday, Kurdish people and their supporters confronted the street presence of Daesh-supporting Islamic-fascists at their protest stall outside a Boots chemist store in High Road, Wood Green in the late afternoon. The Islamists use the stall to promote Sharia Law and the Islamic State. Police came and protected the few fascists from the angry crowd, but quickly the Islamists packed up and left the area. The Kurdish people and their supporters made a procession to their community centre to celebrate their new year of Newroz. There were no arrests.

Anjem Choudary is about as reactionary and vile an Islamist as you can get.

British Jihadist Killed Fighting our Kurdish Sisters and Brothers in Kobane.

with one comment

Muhammad Mehdi Hassan is believed to have been killed in Kobani.

Mehdi Hassan: Died Fighting with Isis Against our Kurdish Sisters and Brothers.

The BBC has just reported.

A fourth man from Portsmouth who went to fight in Syria for Islamic State (IS) is believed to have been killed.

Mehdi Hassan, 19, travelled to the country with a group of four other men in October 2013.

A photo of his body emerged on Twitter on Friday and his family confirmed earlier to their local mosque they had received news of his death.

Iftekar Jaman, Mamunur Roshid and Hamidur Rahman have previously been killed in the fighting.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said it had not received any reports about Mr Hassan’s death but was “aware of reports about the death of a British national in Syria”.

‘Well mannered boy’

Chairman of the Portsmouth Jami Mosque, Abdul Jalil, said: “It has been confirmed with the family that he has died. Right now they are very upset.

“I am saddened and again shocked for the community about this news.”

It is thought he died in Kobane.

A family friend, who did not want to be named, told the BBC: “Mehdi Hassan was a polite well mannered boy and always spoke to elders with respect.

“He had a good family upbringing. It’s a shame, he would have been a valuable member to Portsmouth society.”

On 17 October, a tweet from an account believed to be linked to Mr Hassan said: “Between 20-40 us strikes daily in ayn al arab [the Syrian town of of Kobane]. Alhamdulillah they are spending $10’s of billions…against themselves.

The Guardian says,

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that another of the so-called “Pompey lads” Manunur Roshid, 24, was also killed in fighting on the Syrian frontline with reports suggesting he also died in the battle to seize Kobani, which borders Turkey. Reports of their death follows that of two other Portsmouth men, Ifthekar Jaman, 23, last December and Muhammad Hamidur Rahman, 25 in August.

Hassan’s death leaves Assad Uzzaman, 25, fighting in Syria with Isis while the other member of the group, Mashadur Choudhury, 31, returned to the UK and is currently in jail.

…..

Hasan was part of a group of five calling themselves the “Britani Brigade Bangladeshi Bad Boys”. The fanatics, all from Portsmouth, had been seduced by glamorous tales of martyrdom to join Islamic State – formerly Isis – establishing a Muslim caliphate in the Middle East.

Shiraz Maher, from King’s ICSR, said: “Now, of the six men who went from Porstmouth to fight jihad in Syria, four have now died and one is in prison.

“We know that Hassan was fighting for the battle of Kobani, likely alongside Manunur Rohsid who was reported killed a few days ago.”

Maher said that this death showed that Brits were being killed in all regions of the sprawling and bloody conflict from Mediterranean coastal provinces in Syria, to the west of Iraq to towns on the Turkish border. “Brits are not there to take a back seat in this conflict, they are full participants in this war,” he said.

We take the participation of British Islamists in the genocidal war against our Kurdish sisters and brothers extremely seriously.

Their assault on the beloved people of Kobane is a monstrous  war crime.

Meanwhile the Stop the War Coalition sees fit to publish this in reaction to the attacks in Canada,

The term “terrorism” has become nothing more than a rhetorical weapon for legitimizing all violence by Western countries, and delegitimizing all violence against them, even when the violence called “terrorism” is clearly intended as retaliation for Western violence.

It is hard to think of how they would describe the blood-stained crimes of the “well-mannered” “Pompey lads”.

British Islamist Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin Found Guilty as War Criminal.

with one comment

Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin and…..

UK-Bangladeshi Muslim community leader Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khanwas were being tried in absentia by a special tribunal in Bangladesh.

They were found guilty on 11 charges relating to the abduction and killing of 18 independence supporters.

Reports the BBC.

Hat-Tip GH.

Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin, the defacto leader of the East London Mosque and the Islamic Forum of Europe, the fascist Jamaat e Islami wing in the UK, has finally been found guilty of war crimes for killing pro-Bangladesh indepedance academics in 1971.

The Independent confirms this:

“During the trial, the prosecution had also informed the Court that Mueen, besides being the former chairman of the East London Mosque, he was also formerly Director of the Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the UK’s National Health Service, according to his website.”

Wikipedia says, “Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin ( born 27 November 1948), is known as one of the masterminds of the 1971 killing of Bengali intellectuals, and trustee (former Chairman) of Muslim Aid.[5][6][7]

On 3 November 2013, the  International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Mueen-Uddin to death for killing 18 intellectuals in 1971. Mueen left Bangladesh shortly after its independence in 1971 and went to United Kingdom and staying there till now.

He was a special editor of the London-based weekly Dawat and a leader of the London-based Jamaat organization Dawatul Islam.

Mueen-Uddin is a director of Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), a member of Multi Faith Group for Healthcare Chaplaincy (MFGHC), and a trustee of Muslim Aid.”

The Bangladesh Daily Star announced today,

The tribunal’s verdict of capital punishment for Chowdhury Mueen Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan met the expectations of justice seekers yesterday. But they were hardly relieved by the judgement as the convicts were still at large in the UK and the USA.
And there is little hope of bringing the duo back home as the laws of those countries do not support extradition of any death convict.
Family members of war crimes victims believe that justice will be served only when the verdict is executed.

In a report Mission elimination of Bangalee intelligentsia Inam Ahmed writes

Scorched earth policy has been followed since the days war was invented. But even Hitler’s atrocity in Ukraine as the Nazis retreated from Russian attack pales in comparison.

Mishuk Munier, who as a grade seven student last saw his litterateur father Munier Chowdhury being escorted out by the Badr group, remembered this last scene forever. From the balcony of their house, all he could do was to watch that dreadful, unbearable sight of separation and agony. Munier’s body was never found.

Shumon Zahid, son of journalist Selina Parvin, will always hear her mother’s last words: “Shumon, have your lunch. I will come back soon.” Selina’s body, mutilated, was found on December 17.

Today, the two main killers of that gang, Mueen and Ashraf, are sitting in the UK and the USA respectively. The UK could try Mueen under the Geneva Convention signed in 1957. But that did not happen.

But at least some solace could be found in yesterday’s verdict.
