Political Confusionnisme Comes Big Time to the UK

Tories, Greens and Lib Dems form unlikely alliance on London Assembly

The ToriesGreens and Lib Dems have formed an unlikely alliance on the London Assembly in a deal that will dramatically reduce Labour’s power on committees.

The Conservatives now dominate City Hall’s committees – which hold Sadiq Khan to account – after an extraordinary deal was done with the Greens and Lib Dems. Two Tories have also been elected to the major leadership posts on the London Assembly.

The three political parties said they tried to secure a four party agreement for chairing committees based around the proportion of seats each group has on the London Assembly.

Their plan would have allowed Labour to chair five committees, the Conservatives four, Greens one and the Lib Dems one in the first year of this administration.

Moral: Never Trust a Liberal or a Green.

  1. If this were to go national, Labour might as well disband, unless they want to be in opposition forever.

  2. “The Green Party has members living across all parts of Greenwich and Bexley borough, indeed we have many members in every London constituency. Seldom has there been an issue to unite them as tightly as opposition to the construction of this new road tunnel between Silvertown in Newham and Greenwich Peninsula.”

This explains this, “Instead, it accused the Labour party of trying to block the Greens from chairing the Transport Committee in what it described as a row over the allocation of key Assembly posts.”

The Greens have a maximalist ER position.

  3. We had a red/blue/green coalition in Leeds in the 90’s to run the Council. Labour was the biggest party but was in opposition.
