Without going into, extremely boring, details, they do not want the PCF to get any deputies elected.

Sectarian shite does not even begin to cover it.

  1. The current context demands Left unity from Hamon all the way over to the NPA and LO, but unfortunately that’s not going to happen. The Mélenchon crowd bears a lot of responsibility for this since one of their main goals appears to be wiping away everyone else on the Left. I wouldn’t be uncritical of the PCF, though, seeing that their obsessive focus on alliances with the Hollande-led PS locally and regionally has also been a huge source of disunity and shabby behaviour in recent times (the 2014 municipal elections in Paris and elsewhere come to mind). There’s a lot of destructive settling of scores going on now and pointing fingers solely at Les Insoumis would be a mistake.

  5. With your interest in all things French Andrew you may have read ” Paris .After The Liberation 1944-1949″ by Anthony Beevor and Artemis Cooper. It gave me a great understanding of the split in French society which began with the Franco Prussian war and the Dreyfus affair and which continues to this day.

There is an interesting bit about Picasso and a drawing he did of Stalin for the mass murderer’s birthday which caused outrage in the ranks of the Communist Party. It would be well worth a read if you haven’t already and an article here on the whole affair.
