  1. Anyone who can answer any of these questions (and I can answer all of them) needs to get a life.

  2. Nick, I can detect a flaw in your comment, somewhere.

  3. “Man’s dearest possession is life. It is given to him but once, and he must live it so as to feel no torturing regrets for wasted years, never know the burning shame of a mean and petty past; so live that, dying, he might say: all my life, all my strength were given to the finest cause in all the world──the fight for the Liberation of Mankind”

    Hey ho…😉

  4. After some internet searching for Varga…which initially directed me to some celeb I’ve never heard of and a pornstar (ditto)…I found this https://www.marxists.org/history/etol/newspape/spartacist-us/1972-1980/0024_Autumn_1977.pdf (page 26 onwards…but I have to admit I lost the will to live whilst reading, so didn’t absorb the detail!!).

  6. The Sparts are strong stuff Alex.

They once produced a Gerry Downing style article denouncing me, ‘Coates and his bully boys’. after some altercation at Warwick University in the late 1970s.

Try as I might – and I’ve got former IMG comrades who found a picture of me at an anti-fascist demo on the front page of Red Weekly from the early 1970s, complete with helmet – I have yet to find that one again, although for many years it made me the toast of the West Midlands left.

Nick – I suppose you lost the will to live when you found the Morning Star Editor sending a message of support to the Lambertists at the infamous Paris pro-Brexit rally.

Now thickies like the Socialist Party I can understand their support for this nationalist bean-feast, since they don’t have a clue about the French left, what with their 10 members there.

But you actually know French politics.

  7. I remember not being allowed to talk to them as a 17 year old SWPer – in the same way my mum warned me off “danger strangers”…I still occasionally buy the Workers Hammer – for some strange reason, I find the arbitrary capitalisation and use of bold font really amusing!

  8. They are indeed still around, but like the Communist League Silberman crew they have not got beyond writing their own placards in large capital letters.

There is an interesting discussion about this on Facebook, why do US groups think hand-written placards are cool?
