The Pack is on Charlie’s Heels Again!

More than a month after two gunmen attacked French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo’s offices in Paris, killing 12 people, the newspaper’s newest issue is due to be released on Wednesday as it resumes publication.

The paper rushed out a “survivors’ issue” the week after the shooting, which took place on January 7. Since then, however, Charlie Hebdo has been absent from newsstands.

“We needed a break, a rest… There were those who needed to work again straight away, like me, and those who wanted to take more time,” says Gérard Biard, the publication’s new chief editor. “So we reached a compromise, and agreed on February 25… to start off again on a weekly basis.”

If the cover of Charlie Hebdo’s next issue says anything, it’s that it will be business as usual at the publication. It features an illustration of a range of political and religious figures, including former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, a jihadist and the pope, as a pack of rabid dogs over the headline, “… Here we go again!”

On France-Inter this morning the new editor of the trusty and much-liked weekly, Gérard Biard, expressed concern that their cartoons sparked more indignation today than in the past.

Phooey! We would like to see more outrage!

There is a rumour that the British Left will figure on a future Cover with the same theme as today’s issue.

Tariq Ali, clothed in a dead-sheep, will lead the charge against the lovable Charlie mutt.

Ten Afghan Arabi sheep were sacrificed to make this coat.

Behind him follows the SWP’s Alex Callinicos, in his Scarlet Pimpernel outfit,  and Unite Against Fascism’s leadership, dressed in altar girl and boy costumes.

Will Self, snorting cocaine, will be arm-in-arm with Assad Ali, Seumas Milne, George Galloway  and Salma Yaqoob.

Talking of heavy-weights (former) in the background one can glimpse Sebastian Budgen with one of his family’s excellent Hampers – they kept him popular during his years at Greyfriars.

  1. Excellent: that shyster Tariq A, in particular, needs exposing: his role and weasel-words have been despicable.

  2. He’s never got over 1968 and the fact that the student revolution never actually occurred. He has also never forgiven the working class for not listening to him.

  3. From my Facebook page,

“Let me tell you something: I am mortally offended by attacks on Charlie by the British ‘left’ – mortally.

Charlie – or more exactly their writers and cartoonists – is something deep in my whole life.

I have read one of their founders, Cavanna, his columns, books, and novels for over three decades: his deep and loving Rabelaisian voice was stilled in January last year, and thank hell he didn’t see this.

This feeling is the case for many many people in France and wherever we speak French. You can see how the deeply the French left feels (a tiny number of cranks excepted) by the reaction to the foul smears of the British left by the fact that Pierre Rousset, an historic leader of the Ligue communiste révolutionnaire, took the highly unusual (unique in my very long experience) of directly attacking the SWP for their vile CC statement on the Charlie and Kosher supermarket massacres.

How do you think they feel about the pathetic British left still telling them that they are “useful idiots for racists”? Fucking Charb had the Internationale played at his funeral and was a stalwart of the main French anti-racist group, the MRAP, Cabu was deeply loved by everyone from the Fédération anarchiste (who produced a special commemorative issue of Le Monde Libertarire for Charlie, and on whose radio station I have been interviewed – they are people I would die for) to the EELV (Greens). Millions and millions of people cried their eyes out at his death alone. Wolinski was a hero of the left who was close to the French Communist Party – who unlike the stinking British left have given *real practical support” to our Kurdish sisters and brothers.

The writers come from all parts of the left and I could continue…As Jim says there is only group of racists here, and it is not that of those who cherish Charlie Hebdo.”
