Fusillade à «Charlie Hebdo» : onze morts

No doubt: the Islamist filth have attacked our beloved Charlie.

Eleven people have been shot dead at the headquarters of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, prosecutors confirm.

Two masked gunmen are reported to have stormed the offices of the controversial publication, which has previously been attacked over its portrayal of the Prophet Mohammed.

They are believed to have been armed with Kalashnikov rifles and a rocket-propelled grenade.

Ambulances are at the scene.

Benoit Bringer, a journalist with Agence Premiere Ligne who saw the attack, told the iTele network he saw several masked men armed with machine guns.

More follows… here.

And here.

Every comrade should express maximum love and solidarity with the victims.

  1. …and the only winner from all this will be Marine Le Pen.

  2. Yes, Francis, it’s so obviously a Zionist plot with American help.

  3. Not at all. I don’t imagine for one moment that anyone other than crazed Islamist bigots did this. It’s just that this is a win-win situation for the Front National. It will almost certainly boost their support.

  4. Le Pen is going to make a statement in about an hour. There will be plenty of crocodile tears. But I’m sure she is delighted with the simultaneous elimination of some of her sternest critics and an opportunity to make political capital.

  5. A word about our martyrs: Charb (supporter of the Front de gauche) Wolinski (communist – PCF supporter) Cabu (whose cartoons have played a big part in our lives).

  6. In Berlin there is a “nous sommes charlie” demo outside the french embassy at the brandenburg gate, from 6pm.

On one hand this could lead to more “pegida”-like demos, but, on the other hand, i think i can claim that those involved in that ‘movement’ aren’t generally interested in ‘foreign stuff’, and probably aren’t big fans of satire, comic art, and freedom of the press. They could use this as a stick to try to attack all Muslims with, but the internal contradictions are too big, i suspect.

  8. Dagmar, I don’t watch RT. I prefer to watch France24, I find they have a broad coverage of African/Middle Eastern affairs, because, as we all know, France was the colonial master in that part of the world. Anyway, I was wondering if this is the BIG THING that ISIS promised us in the New Year?

  10. The rise in tensions in France have been a product of the sort of ‘decency’ displayed on this site (going back to Sarkozy). Hollande has been no better. Though you were slow to wake up to the extremism of ISIS, as you were busy supporting them in Syria and denouncing those who questioned them.

    See this article:

    https://tendancecoatesy.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/mother-agnes-mariam-de-la-croix-and-george-galloway/

Clearly this is a publication that deals in hate speech, hate spreading and contributes to Islamophobia. It also seems to be oblivious to rising attack on Muslims etc, and doesn’t see the bigger picture (or worse knows exactly what it is doing).

However, the way to deal with these hate mongers isn’t to massacre them all but to protest against them and boycott them etc. So I do condemn the attacks.

But then again that is easy for me to say as I don’t suffer the consequences of the thoughtless hate spreading of groups like your beloved Charlie.

  11. It also goes without saying that this site and your branch of ‘decency’ have been vociferous supporters and cheerleaders of the use of extreme violence against those you ideologically disagree with. I would also argue that your branch of ‘decency’ often thinks there hasn’t been enough violence!

You an’t called drone supporting leftists for nothing!

  12. Sue and Dagmar – so far, RT’s online coverage of the events and the coverage in the Russian media that I have seen has been factual and unobjectionable. And they have had the courage to show some of the CH covers which our media has been too scared to print.

  13. Thing is, Wanker in the Bedroom, you and your ilk don’t support Enlightenment values ie free speech, and every person is equal. So, stop projecting your own violent, riven fantasies on other people. Start talking about how the Arab Masses are going to win liberty, fraternity and equality, instead of vicious slurs that you mistake for debating points.

  16. Wanker in the Bedroom is not the only relativist piece of shit to scab on Charlie Hebdo: Seymour actually beat the Wanker to it – grotesquely in a (usually excellent)publication called ‘Jacobin’:

  18. Pegida – whoever they are – have announced some kind of lash-up, post ‘Charlie’, with the AfD (Germany’s Ukip, to over-simplify it) in Saxony.

    What this means could be one of two things: a serious rise of might then probably come a hard-right movement, with activists on the streets as well as in parliaments;

or: the collapse of the AfD into a tiny, Islam-obsessed and pro-Putin far-right rump, with only a regional base around Dresden and maybe in other near-entirely ethnic German areas of eastern Germany, as its ‘serious’ politicans, professors and economists, etc., jump ship, as would most of their voters who miss ‘traditional conservative’ politics since Merkel hegemonised the CDU and misunderstood and objected to the troika’s bailout plans in Greece, and who probably weren’t very aware of a lot of the strange ‘intellectual’ weirdos involved in setting up the party and their own particular favourite pet hates (gay marriage, abortion, wind power, flouride, sex education, land reform in the soviet zone in 1945, etc). It looks like the main, ‘serious’, national leader of the AfD is about to resign, even before today’s announcement from Dresden. So I would go for the second possibility as being more likely.

What did LePen have to say, and what are opinion polls showing?

  19. The use of the words Islamic filth is interesting here, rather like a racist uses the term black bastard. I am trying to imagine the reaction if the title “Jewish bastards slaughter the innocents” was used to describe Israels actions in Gaza. Of course in that case the drone supporting leftists firmly blamed the victims for their own deaths. That was one atrocity where the victims very much brought it upon themselves. The irony is that the drone supporting left inadvertently nearly stumble into what could pass for analysis when describing Israel, because they at least avoid the trap of simply demonising the perpetrators.

Contrast that when the boot is on the other foot. But no matter what the drone supporting left say this goes deeper than Islamist filth attacking the right to expression. It is more than an attack on a cartoon I am afraid.

But how can I express this in terms the drone supporting left would understand?

Ok, let us imagine that Islamist filth is a woman who is being held in a dungeon and is being repeatedly raped. And let us imagine 3 characters involved in the scenario. France and Western imperialism is the rapist, Charlie is the accomplice that doesn’t actually take part in the rape but mocks the woman as the rape takes place. The third character is the rapists nephew, little Alan William Leary (AWL for short). He visits his uncle now and again and thinks the woman is dirty, bad mannered and always scowls, even though uncle always feeds her and allows her to speak. The ungrateful bitch, AWL thinks. To AWL the woman is inferior and deserves all she gets. Awl writes about the situation, he portrays his uncle as a kindly lodger and never speaks of the rape, the only time he describes conflict is when the woman screams and shouts.

One day the woman breaks down the door and escapes the dungeon and goes to the police to report the crime. The police are appalled, they charge the woman for breaking the dungeon door, little AWL is a character witness who says the woman is very Bad and doesn’t like her uncle, for some mysterious reason. Charlie mocks the woman, saying she is a slag and secretly liked to be repeatedly shagged up the arse anyway.
The woman then kills Charlie in a fit of rage, little AWL is appalled and the woman is killed.

Meanwhile, the rapist has managed to find another woman to keep in his dungeon. Soon normality is restored.
