That Caliphate Motion to be Moved by Toss-Pot at Left Unity Conference.

Intemperate, inaccurate and moralist Eurocentric reporting of the Caliphate.

Caliphate toss-pot Moves Motion at Left Unity Conference.

The mover of this motion is apparently an ex-member of Big Flame John Tummon .

He has surely lost.

“The call for the Caliphate, however vague and malleable the concept is, reflects a strong internationalism
among Muslims, reinforced and reproduced for hundreds of millions each year by the Haj  (Pilgrimage to Mecca), which breaks down and demotes any attachments to nation states of origin. At bottom the caliphate means one government for all Muslims, in which non-Muslims who accept its authority are also welcome.”

To show solidarity with the people of the Middle  East by supporting the end of the  structure of the  divided nation states imposed by the Versailles  settlement and their replacement by a Caliphatetype polity in which diversity and autonomy are protected and nurtured and the mass of people can effectively control executive authority’. Left Unity distances itself specifically from the use of intemperate, inaccurate and moralist language such as ‘terrorism’, ‘evil’, ‘fundamentalist’, ‘viciously reactionary’, ‘murderous’, genocidal’, etc in discussion about the Middle East; these terms are deployed by people and forces seeking not to understand or analyse, but to demonise in order to dominate, and they have no place within socialist discourse. ft Unity Resolution.

“We also distance ourselves  from the Eurocentric brand of secularism that  believes that the peoples of the Middle East must accept western terms of reference by consigning  their religious faith to a separate part of their  lives from their political aspirations, if they are to  develop progressive societies.”

  1. “Toss pot” indeed. These fuckin eedjit’s are, indeed, beyond belief and simply bring the left into disrepute. Fuck ’em, I say.

PS the thing to remember is that ISIS would have no hesitation in stringing these tossers up by their balls and then disembowelling them with a rusty spoon.

  2. Unbelievable, makes you wonder what these scumbags have been thinking all these years and what they understood by the term ‘socialism’. It is true however, that a lot of the criticism of Islam and Islamic society is moralistic, I believe that socialists need to be more political. The question of who owns and controls the means of production, who takes responsibility to develop them and trade and more basic economic questions need to be raised. These people trade on the fact that Islam is not conspiculously ‘capitalist’ and therefore must be socialist. That myth needs to be exploded. By the way, don’t you think the NHS should adopt the ISIS treatment for smokers: they chop their fingers off.

  3. Having thought about this a bit more, I am even crosser. What has this POS got to say about the abducted women and girls? what about the beheaded men and brave fighters? what about the dispossed Christians and other inhabitants of the area? what about the precious world heritage that is being destroyed? These people are sick. I was interested to read that ISIS are receiving technical help from the Turks, I think that was on CNN, the Turks are helping them to extract and refine oil. Another interesting point is that they have announced they are going to mint their own currency, pure gold and silver coinage. That will be very interesting as I believe the history of such pure coinage is not very encourging but I’m sure someone else will know far more abour fiscal history than I do. I do wonder though if they are going to get one of the mega-rich Gulf states to guarantee their currency.

  4. Apparently it got 4 votes.

4 too many in my view.

  5. Not sure what any of this proves. Given that LU seeks to mop up all the waifs and strays of the far left, and therefore is going to have quite a concentration of political eccentrics of various types, the fact that this motion only got 4 votes is surely a good sign?

  6. Left Unity was unspired by and is supported by Kindly Ken Loach. It is supposedly a feminist party. what a bunch of scumbags Kindly Ken and co are.

  7. The fact that even four people voted for this, and were not chased out of the room, denounced and kicked in the goolies, shows that the so-called “left Unity” is a shower of shite that no serious leftist should touch with a sterilised barge-pole.

  8. Exactly Jim.

I wasn’t originally going to post on this – we had a row with the mover on Facebook a couple of months ago and I thought he’d gone to ground/been laughed out of the organisation.

    Apparently not.

  9. 2 people I think, not four. The proposer and the seconder. I was on my feet and could only see 2.

It’s also worth saying that about a quarter of the conference voted for a “Don’t trust imperialism but don’t denounce military support for the Kurds”, ie correct, position.

  10. Quite interesting. At least it says openly for which cause it fights. I have had on FB a “discussion” about the last murders in Jerusalem synagogue and several FB support the FPLP which supports thèse murders. Two arguments are put forward 1) There is only 2 camps Israel Army and “zionists” on one side and “Palestinians” on the other side so we have to shut up 2) We are Occidentals, so we must let non Occidentals decide what are the best actions… This motion just goes one step farther.

  11. Islamic State’s ‘Progessive Potential’ As ‘Stabilising Force’ Debated By New Left Unity Party
    Huffington Post.

“The “progressive potential” of Islamic State (IS) had been discussed by a British political party, which also claimed a caliphate created by the brutal Islamist terror group would be a “stabilising force” in the region.

The bizarre proposition was put to members of a new left-wing party in an amendment that said IS’s territorial ambitions were a break from “framework of western-imposed nation states” in the Middle East.

The Left Unity motion added that Islamic State’s call for a pan-Islamic Caliphate to replace the various states of the Muslim world was “an authentic expression of … anti-imperialist aspirations.”

  12. Wasn’t the daft pro-ISIS motion massively voted down? Why shoot yourself in the foot when plenty of others are queuing up to do it?

    November 20, 2014 at 6:06 pm

  13. “Its call for the Caliphate” is the subject of the preceding sentence in my amendment to which “therefore, theroretically, has progressive potential” refers, i.e, I am arguing that the call for the Caliphate, not Islamic State, has this theoretical potential. This was clear enough to me whilst drafting & re-drafting a complex document, but I can appreciate that few people will have read it carefully, and I could have spotted the potential this had for misinterpretation and adjusted it to make it clearer.

Andrew, your demonisation of me seems to know no bounds and the lack of grammatical grasp that has caused lots of people who say they are angry at this proposed amendment shows their political cowardice in denouncing any attempt to try to reach out towards a more strategic analysis of the Middle East shows the moralism ratehr than the politics of you and them and dependence on western media for your facts. Cameron shut down 40 websites that could have shed more light on what is happening. We have been living with embedded journalism for over 30 years during military conflicts and it pushed the Left into joining the demonisation of Serbia in the 1990s and supporting hat ‘humanitarian war’. Now the War on Terror propganda has fooled the Left once more.

What do you know about what the concept of the Caliphate is, has been and might be apart from via propaganda? Using secularist reflexes rather than engaging empathy and curiosity is the mark of Left dogmatism.

  14. Anyone who writes, “the lack of grammatical grasp that has caused lots of people” does not know grammar.

Do you mean that “a” lack of grammar has caused, and an extended succession of subclauses (not marked) joined sloppily by coordinates?

Anyway glad to have goaded you out your lair.

    More demain.

  17. This website seems to be inhabited mostly by people who like to swear, point the finger and use vicious language. Whatever happened to rational debate?

  18. Theres no rational debate to have with people who support theocratic fascists , what argument is there to have to for a person who supports a group who does for example

Burying children alive, Burning people alive in cages, Throwing homosexuals off buildings and Using child suicide bombers .

Beheading people for “sorcery” ,committing genocide against yetzidis, turkmen and shabak among other groups

Insdcriming killings of shia, christians and even public crucifixions and destroying the graveyards and monuments and houses of worship of these people . Enslaving women, mass raping them and selling them as cattle in auctions . Killing children for watching football and tortuing people for owning musicial instrusments. Throwing homosexuals of buildings and stoning women , cutting the fingers of smokers and cutting the hands of people who have stolen food because they are starving under isis tyranical rule

Why in earth would anybody want to have a rational debate with somebody who supports such a group?
