French Primary Schools Boycott Over ‘Gender Theory’.

with 7 comments

The French government is fighting to break a school boycott by parents convinced that their children are being taught masturbation and a non-existent “gender theory” as part of an effort to promote equality between the sexes.

RFI continues,

The boycott, which started on Monday and is reported to have affected about 100 schools, was in response to a call by Farida Belghoul, a film-maker and novelist who started a political life as an anti-racist activist but is now close to far-right ideologue Alain Soral, who in turn is an ally of controversial comedian Dieudonné M’Bala M’Bala.

She and her supporters claimed that the ABCD of Equality, an effort to combat gender inequality in education and employment being tried out in several areas of the country since last autumn, teaches pupils that sexual differences are socially constructed, leading to little boys be told to wear dresses and children being invited to choose their sexuality.

“Under the pretext of the struggle for equality and against homophobic discrimination” gay rights activists are discussing ‘homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality” in class, the organisers’ website declares.

About 100 schools have been affected so far.

The government has reacted.

“French Education Minister Vincent Peillon ordered principals across the country to summon any parent keeping their child from school in order to dispel the rumour and remind the adults that school is compulsory.

“The national school system is in no way teaching gender theory. It teaches equality from all points of view, and in particular, equality between women and men,” Peillon said.”

France 24.

Amongst the lies spread are these (le Monde):

  • “gender ideology” will be imposed by impose to create a “a society based on sexual orientation that become the foundation of law and equality”
  •  Teaching “gender theory” will  become mandatory
  • A document has been distributed in primary schools  teaching “gender theory”
  • Masturbation would be promoted from kindergarten
  •  The government will  ban home schooling

According to Rue 69 those spreading these rumours take their ‘evidence’ from German and Swiss sex-eduction material.

Such as this,

They claim that this leaflet will be given to children,

Most of those promoting this hysteria are from the Catholic, anti-Gay, far right.

But according to a spokesperson for the North African feminist group, Ni Putes Ni Soumises, on France-Inter this morning, some Imams in Mosques have also been promoting the calls for boycotts.

The Collectif Mussulmans pour l’enfance is one of the forces involved in this campaign.

Farida Belghoul, who is at the head of this wave of bigotry, is from an Algerian family,.

She played a role in the 1983  Marche pour l’égalité, the anti-racist demonstration that gave birth to SOS Racisme.

En 2013, Farida Belghoul became close to Alain Soral, the extreme right ideologue, and his  association Égalité et Réconciliation.

Her activity against the so-called  ‘théorie du genre‘ has brought her to public attention again.

On the  13th of December she launched a call for a « Journée de retrait de l’école » – a day boycott of schools.

The protest is to demand that “gender theory” is banned in schools

She has also announced that 2004 will be the  « l’année de la robe »,  (the year of the dress), calling for women to wear dresses and leave trousers to men.

  1. Those pesky Muslims again, will be Sharia law next. The far right did warn us that by allowing them in we would face these problems! Your site certainly keeps a very detailed record of every single issue, no matter how big or how small!

Maybe if we only allowed in the moderate ones…..

I would say that in Europe the rights of women, homosexuals etc have considerably iimproved in recent decades, despite (or maybe because of) the influx. These things do need pointing out from time to time.

I remember reading an article by Peter Tatchell who argued that the struggles of immigrants against racism had really provided an impetus for the gay rights struggle. So there are positives.

Calm heads amid the panic boys!

  2. In Germany (in Berlin) the local tabloid press tried to get worked up by a resource case of books etc. on sex education for primary school children, which had more than a hint of “Jenny lives with Eric and Martin”-style ‘outrage’ about it.

It didn’t work though, this is Berlin. In any case the rather excellent book concerned then went on to win the German children’s literature prize, if I remember rightly. It contained the terribly shocking notion that people fall in love (and/or have children with) with all kinds of people, and sometimes both are men, sometimes both are women, sometimes they were previously ‘with’ a different sex but now with the same sex, and probably most shocking for the Springer press, was that some of the gay/bisexual men can also look rather manly and or scruffy, with woolen jumpers and beards like a early 1980s Green Party conference, and some of the gay/bisexual women can also look rather feminine, and they even have children, and there are such things as surrogate pregnancies. I think they also didn’t like the idea that parents and kids tend to swear and fart, regardless of their sexuality.

I wonder if it’s been translated into English yet?

  3. I have a great many problems with feminism, but these people are just off base. My problem with feminism is the lack of gender equality within the movement. Women can wear pants now, but men still can’t wear dresses? Men should be allowed to wear dresses. The problem I have with feminism is they are not doing what these right-wingers are claiming. Feminists are not promoting men in dresses.

  4. Women can wear pants? Good heavens, I should hope so too. Not doing so is awfully unhygienic

  5. That was my thought Dagmar, though I was not living in the UK when this happened and I only know about ‘Jenny lives with…’ second hand.

The French case seems a real example of whipped up hysteria, urban myths, and political manipulation by the far-right aided by Islamists.

Though I note Germany had some problems with Daniel Cohn-Bendit’s views on sexuality I recall.

  6. Well “Jenny lives with…” was bascially what led to Clause 28, though I was too young at the time to notice myself, though the effects of it were certainly very visible when I was at school (in the Thatcher-Major years).

Cohn-Bendit is a shit, as we all know, and the stuff in that book of his, probably made up, gets re-aired to discredit the “left” (no idea why, what with him having nothing to do with the left for a very long time) every now and again – I suppose the Greens are just acting as a proxy in that respect. It is of course a fact that the (West) German Greens’ formal programme still was pro-“man-boy love” or whatever euphamism they were using, “paedosexuality” probably, until the merger with the East German Greens’ and civic movements in 1994 (?), who, I think, demanded it be removed.
