Trotsky: Successfully Predicted Crisis in British SWP.

“When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.”

This is today’s must-read.

‘At the time that the Fourth International was founded, Trotsky predicted that it would count millions of partisans within ten years. Sarcastic critics maliciously enjoy citing this prognosis and asking where these millions are.’ Ernest Mandel, 1947

Even a stopped clock is right occasionally. The renegade Mandel was correct in 1947 when he scoffed at those philistines who saw, in the superficial failure of Trotsky’s predictions to materialise on schedule, an excuse for poking fun at his heirs. With the benefit of hindsight, we can see the acuity of Mandel’s analysis.

The Rotten Elements – Mystic Lev’s Predictions

Socialist Workers Party:

Like a stuck record, the newly-triumphant Leatherette leadership will continue to bleat about ‘recruiting the ones and twos’ – on the barricades. Comrade Delta will be reinstated and placed in charge of the party’s student section, with his very own private boudoir added to the Vauxhall bunker. Traumatised cadres will continue to leave for the clammy comforts of the swamp. Alex Callinicos will decamp to take up a professorship in Harare. Paper sales will ‘soar’, and Marxism 2014 will be ‘bigger than ever’.

I really cannot recommend this Blog too highly.

  1. There is I believe — and our Blog-Master hopefully will confirm — an old French phrase ‘un argument de cuir’, an argument of leather, meaning a very dubious, indeed, dishonest way of presenting things. With the leading protagonist of the Friends of Martin Smith in mind, this is a very appropriate phrase.
