On the Briefing ‘Original’ and ‘Islamophobia’.

with 20 comments

” Hello Andrew,

Appreciate you are probably with the LRC, but thought you may be interested to see these.

Merry Christmas.

John Stewart.”

Enclosed two “Original” Briefings.

Certainly ‘interested’.

I have great respect for the comrades who produce this journal (this is not made up)

It’s always good news to learn that Bob Pitt of  Islamophobia Watch and ex-WRP is still spilling bile against secularism.

One would  have though that the Arab Spring, and the relentless  fight of Egyptian democrats against his old mate Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s Muslim Broherthood would have led him to shut  his gob.

Apparently not.

Liberty, Equality and Islamophobia is his latest offering to the only left journal willing to give him space.

Pitt has got this theory that there is some kind of ‘left-wing’ wave of Islamophobia going on in France.

On the basis of some tiny crank orgs who have recruited a couple of former far-left individuals (Cassen and Engleman – yes I underlies a couple that is 2 people) he manages to suggest that there is some kind of widespread turn to the far right of French secularist lefties.

But the bite is in the tail.

“there are hardline secularists in Britain too, some of them active in the labour movement, whose claim to oppose all forms of religious belief doesn;t prevent themselves with the right in portraying  Islam as a particular threat to civilisation”.

Now we know that Bob is referring to one main target who is tapping away at the keyboard now.

Readers of the ‘Original’ Briefing will not be any the wiser as to who the other ‘hardline secularists’ are by reading the obituary of hardline secularist Terry Liddle in the same issue.

In  Stalinist style it does not mention Terry’s secularism once!

  1. Doesn’t Bob Pitt’s site make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Feel the love.

  2. Re. Bob Pitt/Respect etc. What’s “Newham Council’s disrespect for Muslims and Mosques” all about then? I doubt that much clarity would be heard at the Galloway-Ridley-Miah-Lee Jasper meeting Bob Pitt is plugging.

    December 27, 2012 at 10:02 pm

  3. Andrew, what’s all this about and how do I find the Bob Pitt site. Didn’t he work for Livingstone or something similar?

    December 28, 2012 at 7:09 am

  4. What is the information on this Galloway-Ridley-Miah-Jasper meeting? Who is this Miah? It’s a Bangladeshi name so I might know him. If I don’t I can soon find out.

    December 28, 2012 at 7:29 am

  5. I found it. It’s tomorrow at Plaistow. What a line up of crooks and have been wanabbes? Abjol Miah is a well know Islamist activist in Tower Hamlets. He was Chair of the Islamic Forum Europe youth wing Young Muslims Organisation and was a key figure in getting the IFE mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman elected and was also key in faking signatures on the referendum for an elected mayor in the first place.

I sometimes think Galloway is into street theater as the whole Respect fiasco has now just become a joke. Is Lee Jasper still proclaiming his innocence over the millions that went missing from the London Development Agency? If he is is anyone listening?

Ms Ridley is practically certifiably insane and Galloway, well what to say? I am sure he has his tongue in his cheek all the time because while the other three are thick shysters he is actually quite intelligent. I,m busy tomorrow otherwise I would have gone for a laugh.

This article is a bit of a mess Andrew, not up to your usual neat standard.

  6. “This article is a bit of a mess Andrew, not up to your usual neat standard.”

I am used to praise, but let that comment be.

I am stirred, as they say.

Bob Pitt was the adviser to Ken Livingstone involved in the dodgy “Yusuf al-Qaradawi” dossier.

See comrade Peter Tatchell on this,

He was also deeply involved in an attempt to stir up British (oh so British) feeling against the French ban on ostentatious religious symbols in state schools, including an effort to make an alliance between Moslem Brotherhood supporters and Livingstone

    This is not the worst.

In the article Pitt cites approvingly the “Collectif contre l’Islamophobie en France”.

This group led, with an overtly anti-Semite faction, a racist and homophobe attack on gay activist comrade Caroline Fourest at this year’s Fête de l’Humanité.

Pitt will no doubt be proud of his racist anti-gay friends.

There are first hand witnesses of this group’s actions on this site – in the comments boxes, by Pete Shield.

The comrades from the PCF and working class activists defended Caroline shouting, “le fascisme ne passera pas!

Pitt and his mates are creatures that have nothing to do with the workers’ movement.

  7. Excellent. Qaradawi is a fascist, actually people like he get fascism a bad name, Lee Jasper is a thief an everything’s right with the world. Except Simon Woolley of OBV is still stealing money.

  8. Informed rational freedom loving people have all the reasons in the world to fear islam. The twin fogs of political correctness & ignorance must be dispersed before western society better understands this menace. Even a brief review of islamic theology & history quickly exposes the deadly roots of this evil ideology.

Mohamhead was a 7th century murdering warlord who rose to power on a river of blood surrounded by thugs and gangsters using intimidation, violence, deception and trickery to expand their criminal empire while mercilessly suppressing and killing their opponents and enriching themselves on stolen booty.

The evil koran is a collection of sayings and speeches by this diabolical madman claiming divine guidance from some mythical sky-god which has inspired generations of crazed fanatics to abhorrent behavior resulting in historys worst ever crimes against humanity starting 1400 years ago and still continuing even today.

Islam is just another fascist totalitarian ideology used by power hungry fanatics on yet another quest for worldwide domination and includes all the usual human rights abuses & suppression of freedoms.

and some snappy infographics, great for emailing…

  9. Snappy maybe, but clearly produced by illiterates. Or as you might put it, “why zee”, “illiterate’s”.

  10. In the process of becoming an institutional force Chistianity was imposed by a brutal set of bigots and murderers , the former represented by ‘Saint’ Jermone, the latter by the mob that killed the wonderful woman ‘pagan’ philosopher Hypatia,

“There was a woman at Alexandria named Hypatia, daughter of the philosopher Theon, who made such attainments in literature and science, as to far surpass all the philosophers of her own time. Having succeeded to the school of Plato and Plotinus, she explained the principles of philosophy to her auditors, many of whom came from a distance to receive her instructions. On account of the self-possession and ease of manner which she had acquired in consequence of the cultivation of her mind, she not infrequently appeared in public in the presence of the magistrates. Neither did she feel abashed in going to an assembly of men. For all men on account of her extraordinary dignity and virtue admired her the more.[1] ”

” A multitude of believers in God arose under the guidance of Peter the Magistrate . . . and they proceeded to seek for the pagan woman who had beguiled the people of the city and the Prefect through her enchantments. And when they learnt the place where she was, they proceeded to her and found her . . . they dragged her along till they brought her to the great church, named Caesareum. Now this was in the days of the fast. And they tore off her clothing and dragged her . . . through the streets of the city till she died. And they carried her to a place named Cinaron, and they burned her body with fire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypatia

Mohammed was a man of his time, nothing more, nothing less.

He did not, as far as I know, do anything as bad as the killers of Hypatia.

There were plenty of Hypatias in the history of the Christian Church.

  11. Do you consider several hundred Jewish lives worth less than one pagan woman? Actually, Mohammed ordered the massacre of two Jewish tribes in Saudi Arabia and their women and children sld into slavery. He also left a collection of writings that encouraged murder and mayhem. But, this is all very unscientific. I am currently reading Tom HOlland’s book about the collapse of the late Roman Empire, ‘Millennium’. Reading the book makes one (ie me) realsie that the laws of medieval warfare were not as today. The Normans were especially vicious. Did you know that the First Crusade declared by a Pople was against the NOrmans who were laying waste to Southern Italy? Life in the Middle Ages still remained ‘nasty, short and brutish’, but, Europe went on to develop beyond that, and the rest is history. However, the Islamic lands have not been able to fundamentally move on, because they are nailed to a ‘Holy Book’ and because the means of production in teh Islamic countries (especially the Middle East are woefully underdeveloped.).

Makes me laugh actually, we are supposed to be cowered and amazed by skyscrapers such as the Shard, the Emirates Stadium and the urban wastelands and shoppign centres of the Gulf Kingdoms (Shakedowns)but it’s all done with Western know-how and technology. The poor loves demonstrate their civilizational inferiority constantly and don’t even know it.

  12. And there was Charlemagne’s genocide of the Old Saxons which Holland covers in either that book or his earlier one.

    The list is pretty endless.

Anyway if you want a laugh Sue our old IMG comrades latest contortion in front of Galloway, at a meeting attended by no less than Both Lee Jasper and Yvonne Ridley.

A Respect revival in East London?

It does manage to get some good jibes in,”the overwhelming backdrop to the meeting was anger at decision earlier in the month by Newham Council, led by its Executive Mayor Robin Wales, to refuse planning permission to a new mosque development in the borough (dubbed a ‘super-mosque’ or ‘megamosque’ ”

Galloway got straight to the point by pointing out that there are 95,000 Muslims in Newham borough “which the Labour Party will be repeatedly reminded of” in the times ahead. Newham council leaders had claimed the proposed mosque was ‘too big’. “It’s big” said Galloway “because so many people want to go”. “I have no doubt”, he told the meeting, reminding them of his Catholic background, ( strong point for Marxists no doubt TC comments) “that if 95,000 Catholics had wanted a ‘big’ church to pray in it would have got planning permission”, particularly as it was on disused, unattractive wasteland. Galloway and some other speakers repeatedly pointed to the positive aspects of people wanting to pray, ”in these godless times”, and, at times, the meeting had more than the hint of a religious ‘Revivalist’ meeting, rather than one purely about reviving a political party. Galloway went into a tirade against gambling and alcohol promotions on Christmas Television and Lee Jasper also spoke about how “despite these godless times” the growth of London’s black evangelical Christian churches, who had encountered difficulties with getting new premises, should be supported because they were bringing hope to people. The notion of faith as a centre of resistance for communities facing austerity now seems to be more than a passing part of Respect’s frame of reference following the departure of some key secularist left figures during the recent difficulties over Galloway’s appalling statements on rape. ”

I do note one unfortunate reference in the article to Queen Victoria being German,

“He could have made the point that in Disraeli’s time there was one family where English was not the main language spoken in the home – that of Queen Victoria, where German was the dominant language and most of her children spoke with a very heavy German accent, a fact overlooked in most of the ‘period dramas’ of the time on current film and TV where they are all portrayed with an impeccably “…etc etc.

I can think of lots of reasons to dislike Victoria (given at great length in Giles Lytton Strachey’s book on her) but her having a German accent is not one that springs to mind.

  13. “Anyway if you want a laugh Sue our old IMG comrades latest contortion in front of Galloway, at a meeting attended by no less than Both Lee Jasper and Yvonne Ridley”
I don’t see what particular contortions your ex-comrades have indulged in here, it seems a straightforward factual account of a meeting which contains strong condemnations of Galloway and Respect. What are you referring to? And it’s strange you have no problem with your ex-comrade Sue’s contortion into a blatant racist, referring to the “civilisational inferiority” of Arabs. What is it about your blog that attracts so many racists and bigots?
“strong point for Marxists no doubt TC comments”
Galloway isn’t a Marxist and probably nobody at the meeting was either. Why should he be making “strong points for Marxists” and what relevance does it have for the issue at hand?

  14. ‘Holy Joe’, yeah, right. Personally, I don’t think referencing the fact that the Middle Eastern and Indonesian civilizations are failing is particularly contrioversial. Do they provide flush toilets and a steady electiral supply for the majority of their population? I don’t think so. No, Galloway makes a point of saying that he is not a Marxist. He reiterates claims to being a Catholic (or rather referring to his catholic background.) HOw the ghell did he marry at least two Muslim women if he is not a Muslim? Two marriages of which are Muslim ceremonial weddings? Please explain. I would take issue with his grievance mongering, caliming that a Catholic Church would have no problem getting permission to build a monstrosity. That is purely inflammatory. The world cockweasel springs to mind. As for the power of prayer, well, last time I looked it seems to have f all effect on real problems in the material world. When I was young we always used to say that the more religious a country was, the worse the condition of its people. The Gulf Shakedowns are only awash with cash because of an accident of geology, but even they know that it can’t last and are planning for the aftermath by investing as much as they can in the West.

  15. Holy Joe, I do have a very serious problem with Sue’s comments, which she knows full well.

This Blog has supported the democratic Arab Spring revolutionaries, in depth, which is my answer.

The break down of readership of Tendance Coatesy (which ranges from mimumum 200 to 600 a day, sometimes a lot more) is, by country, first UK, USA, France, and then Tunisia.

I suggest that perhaps that indicates something.

As for Blogs, Dave’s Blog attracts a group of people who have a tendency to make similar comments and some of whom refer to ‘bum boys’ and other charming expressions.

I have a very serious problem with that as well.

I am about to analyse the article, which is not critical in the way you refer to.

  16. When the comments here get like those over at Dave’s, then I suggest Andrew that you introduce pre-moderation (and yes, censorship and deletion). It’s about political hygiene.

Re the bizarre, religious sectarian meeting in Newham: can you find out why Miah didn’t turn up?

    December 30, 2012 at 12:52 pm

  17. Thanks Daggi, there is a general filter here (which I set up) on words like C*** and racist and homophobic abuse.

I find it harder to deal with people who somehow think that I am on ‘their’ side.

I stand for the brave arab revolutionaries.

As anybody who read the lengthy review I had in the Weekly Worker a few months back on the Algerian Revolution can check out.

  18. Are you hinting that I am a racist? Because I believe that the Arab, African and Indonesian people are entitled to a better standard of material life? Sorry, I didn’t realise that we were supposed to admire their colourful cultures and funny little ways. Or as Family Guy puts it, ‘their pooping in the street.’.

  19. You often come across like a racist, but I wasn’t personally thinking of you, Sewer, but more ‘in general’, and “why zee” in particular. The “madmullah” is playing games with him/her pretending to be naive yet at the same time being seemingly very well informed, leaving possibly libellious comments about other people. Be careful, blog moderator!

  20. Respect are anti-marxist socialists, religious socialists almost, mabye even ” atheist religious socialists” as they see the benefit in some of muslim and christian teaching of “love thy neighbour” and “thou shall not kill” You far left islamophobic buggers need to grow the fuck up, bigotry is bigotry, just cause you wear a badge of atheist doesnt make you immune from being a bigot, in fact Stalin Persecuted Muslims, Orthodox Jews, and Eastern Catholics, he was scum> Marxism is 10% great and 90% rediculous, especially the desire to eradicate the family. I have a lot of time for respect now the secularist bigots and racists and anti womens rights people have left it, who would deny people the right to wear a cross whilst other jewerly round the neck is permitted or would force or try to persuade a women not to wear a head scarf against her will if its part of her religion but would not give a fuck if it was part of fashion….

Viva The Revisionist socialist movement, free from the tyranny of Marxist oppression and intolerance of faith and even just non conformism.
