Bob Avakian Tribute Page Project.

Where the  Bob Avakian Institute leads, we follow.

Bob Avakian is a visionary communist thinker and revolutionary leader. He is the author of many many books and articles. He is the leader of a leading force in the world left: Revolutionary Communist Party, USA. And he is more than that: he’s an innovative and critical thinker who has taken Marxism-Bobism to a new place; he’s a provocative commentator on everything from The Big Bang Theory, Cricket,  to Snail Control , Doo-wop music to Ley-Lines; and he’s a pit-bull fighter against revisionism who’s kept both his solemn sense of purpose and his irrepressible sense of humor.

As Bob says,

Enriched What Is To Be Done-ism”

Hastening while awaiting—not bowing down to necessity (Voice from Audience: Quite Right!)

Next I want to talk about “Enriched What Is To Be Done-ism” and its role in building a revolutionary and communist movement.

I spoke earlier about the outlook and approach of revisionist “determinist realism” which, among other things, involves a passive approach to objective reality (or necessity), which sees the objective factor as purely objective—and purely “external,” if you will—and doesn’t grasp the living dialectical relation between the objective and subjective factors and the ability of the latter (the subjective factor—the conscious actions of people) to react back on and to transform the former (the objective factor—the objective conditions). (Voice from audience: Too True Comrade Bob!) In other words, this “determinist realism” doesn’t grasp the essential orientation, and possibility, of transforming necessity into freedom. It doesn’t really, or fully, grasp the contradictoriness of all of reality, including the necessity that one is confronted with at any given time. So, one of the essential features of “determinist realism” is that it dismisses as “voluntarism” any dialectical grasp of the relation between the subjective and objective factors, (Audience: You’ve hit the nail on the Head!)  and sees things in very linear, undifferentiated ways (Sighs from audience)  as essentially uniform and without contradiction, rather than in a living and dynamic and moving and changing way. (More movement Comrade! – audience).”

In association with the Fondation Bob-Avakain (Château de Peyrepertuse, France)  and the Bob Avakain Stiftung (Walpurgis, Germany) we intend to set up a Tribute Page to the Great Thinker and Battler for the Cause of Humanity that is Bob Avakain.

  1. I knew some RCP people when I lived in Los Angeles. They seemed nice, but a bit nutty. They would form front groups around issues such as police violence, which would initially attract a lot of people, but their secrecy and control freakery would always eventually drive them away.

    • We used to get Bob’s pamphlets sent to the Other Branch (an alternative bookshop in Leamington Spa) back in the late 1970s. They had a folksy charm all of their own. But from what I hear Spaniard their activities, as you describe, turn people off. From what I read there is a whole library of material on that and their cultish character.

  3. I can remember a stall of them around 20 years ago Friday late afternoon at a tube station in Hamburg with a large banner saying “There is People’s War in Peru” … of course, most people (in an area with quite a lot of leftists) passing by were thinking, that “people’s war” is something bad

    @ethan: Praise the Bob!

    “There is a great need for people who are yearning for a different, better world to be introduced to Bob Avakian and his revolutionary vision of the most radical rupture with traditional property relations and traditional ideas, and a vibrant, exciting communist world in which people would really thrive—the unleashing of art and science, awe and wonder, ferment and imagination in mind-boggling dimensions.”

  5. Wow, these people were at Burning Man? I wish I had been there. It must have been like a Luis Buñuel film.
