The People’s Flag is Red, White and Blue?

In the Morning Star Monday Column, usual  ad for the Korea Friendship on the anniversary of the birth of Kim Il Sung, “exploring his work on anti-imperialism, and the socialist economy.” Hah, just before, we find something a bit odd: Campaign for an Independent Britain and Campaign against Euro-Federalism. Public meeting, Democracy or EU Dictatorship’. Saturday 4th April. Friends Meeting House. Speakers; Frank Keoghan, People’s Movement Ireland, Brain Denny, Trades Unionists Against the European Union Constitution, and RMT Press Officer, Sir Teddy Taylor, former MP, Henry Nitzsche, MP, (Germany).  I was initially alerted by comrade Ian on Socialist Unity (though he has yet to post about it on his Blog) who questions workers’ interests in sharing a meeting with the likes of Taylor. Just in case you’ve not got the slant of the event it is further advertised on UKIP sites such as this.

But there is worse than the fact that this is a platform of the RMT initiated No2EU, with British and Irish right-wing chums, such as Teddy Taylor. A lot worse.

On Henry Nitzsche (here):

“I am sick of being the bogeyman,” Nitzsche said on Friday, confirming his resignation from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Nitzsche had recently caused an uproar in Germany when he said that Germany “should never again be governed by multicultural fags from Berlin.” He was referring to the previous German coalition government consisting of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Green party.Nitzsche also spoke about the German “cult of guilt” in the way Germans deal with their country’s past. (15.12.2006)

Nitzsche is reported saying a few years back  that, “”A Muslim would sooner allow his hand to rot away before checking the box next to the CDU on his ballot.” (here)

According to Wikipedia’s German pages: “Seit dem 18. Februar 2008 ist Nitzsche Vorsitzender der von ihm gegründeten Wählervereinigung Bündnis Arbeit, Familie, Vaterland – Liste Henry Nitzsche.” That’s how he got elected.

Family, Work, Fatherland – sounds familiar, hein?

Added 1st April.

This is too good not to miss (Hap-tip to Herbert): Kilroy Silk to stand on No2EU list. Poisson d’Avril? ‘Apparently’ not: official confirmation here.

  1. It’s certainly a rather peculiar platform and not one that No2EU should be having any part of.

You are wrong though about the platform consisting of “British and Irish right wing chums.” The Irish organisation represented the “People’s Movement” is a leftish grouping involving left leaning independent politicians, ex-Greens and the like.

  2. Nitzsche is a kind of far right populist weirdo who combines the worst parts of German conservatism and lutheran protestantism, recently, he was invited by the parliamentary group of Vlaams Belang (Ex-Vlaams Block) and gave there a nationalistic speech (“Flemish money in Flemish hands”) … he seems to be genuinely afraid of everything he can’t understand or which doesn’t fit in his narrow Weltanschauung, he even called for shooting all the wolves (10-15) which have moved to the area where he lives from Czech Republic some years ago

  3. This was posted on Socialist Unity:

“Campaign for an Independent Britain meeting Saturday June 4

I was invited to speak on behalf of Trade Unionists Against the EU Constitution to the CIB annual general meeting which normally has speakers from across the political spectrum. CIB chair Lord Stoddard was expelled from the Labour Party in 2001 for supporting the Socialist Alliance and Austin Mitchell MP, a Socialist Campaign Group member, is also on the committee.

When I agreed to speak I understood that I would be sharing a platform with a speaker from the People’s Movement in Ireland and an African speaker talking about the devastating impact of EU trade deals on African countries.

I was not aware that the German MP Henry Nitzsche, who has opposed the Lisbon Treaty in Germany, had been added to this platform. While I am willing to debate with people with differing views to my own, I feel that on this occasion it is inappropriate for me to join a platform with this speaker due to fact that has made insulting anti-Muslim and anti-gay remarks.

Those who support the development of an anti-democratic superstate in Europe would use my participation in such a platform as a sign that I somehow agreed with Henry Nitzsche’s remarks, which is clearly not the case.

NO2EU – Yes to Democracy nominating officer

  4. Funny it took publicity – from this Blog I believe – to get this statement out. It took me half an hour on the Web to find out more than I needed to know about Niztsche – or five minutes to get the essential. Anyway the name Campaign for an Independent Britain reeks. And what about Teddy Taylor, even the RMT must know who he is.

  5. Poisson d’avril? Bien sûr! Just check the web address for your link; it is not the no2eu site.

Mind you, it does seem strange to me that anti-EU campaigners in Britain are inviting Germans who appear to have a soft spot for that earlier attempt to create a European superstate, the one that came to such a bad end 64 years ago…

  7. http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/britain/extremist_german_mp_rejected … on Nitzsche’s webpage is a fresh report about his party’s conference which was attended by an MP of Vlaams Belang

  8. Interesting that the Wednesday report said,

“The meeting organisers said that, Mr Nitzsche’s extreme anti-Muslim position and “unacceptable” views on sexual orientation only came to light yesterday.”

Yesterday being the day when I posted this Blog article.

Hmmm, more likely the ravings of a Jesuit loving Papist, as they were the sponsors of the Hitler Regime (images of Seig Heiling Cardinals and Bishops are a plenty on goofle images… and our old playmate Ady H was a Catholic, yeh?). Shooting wolves? Dangerous buggers, sonny, look at the City of London…

  11. The Peoples Movement in Ireland is not right wing. It is a bit popular frontist but would be close to nthe Irish CP. It broke from Anthony Coughlan who was prepared to ally with almsot anyone against the EU. I disagree with the Peoples Movement but they are not as bad as Tedy Taylor and co.
